Microsoft’un merakla beklenen yeni işletim sistemi Windows 8 için sürüm isimleri belli oldu. Windows 8 marketlerde Windows 8 ve Windows 8 Pro olarak yer alacak. İşletim sisteminin ARM ve WOA (x86/64) tabanlı mobil cihazlar için hazırlanan sürümü ise Windows RT olarak adlandırılmış olarak gelecek. Windows 8 Pro ile herhangi bir kısıtlamaya gidilmezken Microsoft, ağ çözümlü servislerini Windows 8 sürümüne dahil etmeyi tercih etmemiş. Microsoft aynı zamanda işletim sisteminin kurumsal çözümleri için Enterprise versiyonunu da Windows 8 Pro özellikleri ve bilgisayar yönetimi servisleriyle sunacak. Ek olarak Windows 7 kullanıcıları mevcut işletim sistemlerini Windows 8 ve Pro sürümlerine yükseltebilecekler.
